Did Race for Life. It was much more picturesque to be doddering about Bakewell Showground than it was a manky industrial estate and the streets of Attercliffe last year! The weather was mainly lovely and wrm too, but I didn't half ache when I got back.
Also, thanks ![[info]](http://p-stat.livejournal.com/img/userinfo.gif) stevek - I noticed, but my emails have been piddling about (with the rest of my netty stuff) all afternoon, so I've been a little limited in what I can do at the mo.
My end sponsorship total was quite good - £125 all together, Net-based and on paper, so I just managed to get above my target, which was really good. I'v also got a few photos, which I will attempt to post up later, as long as the machine behaves itself... |

... que probablemente sólo me han hecho gracia a mí, pero en algo tengo que pensar hasta que por fin pueda verla:
- Hace 19 años de la anterior. Y la vi en el cine (con mis padres, eso sí). Y me parecía que no hacía tanto de eso. Me siento vieja.
- La mala se llama Irina. Pero qué brasas: ¿no se saben más nombres rusos? Se van a parecer a los telecos con las letras griegas. (En el fondo, sé que como oiga a Indiana Jones pronunciar mi nombre en algún momento, aunque sea con odio / más aún si es con odio, me derretiré en la butaca.)

Recién escuchado en el telediario de TVE(1) (disculpad que la cita no sea exacta palabra por palabra, sí prometo que he venido corriendo a escribirlo y se ajusta bastante a la idea):
"Cada año se compran en España N preservativos y los que se tiran por el inodoro acaban en el mar. Por eso los usuarios buscan cada vez más preservativos que sean más ecológicos."
Me encantan los periodistos: así que los usuarios, para poder tirar los condones al retrete, los buscan biodegradables. Es evidente, estoy viendo al tipo de subnormal que se empeña en tirar los condones a la letrina de turno buscando un paquete de biodegradables por las sex shops de Madrid, hasta encontrar alguno. Da el perfil, claramente. Y, no, no acompañaban la noticia con un estudio que diese la sorpresa de que sí, un x% de usuarios de preservativos busca expresamente condones ecológicos para poder deshacerse de ellos en el WC.
¿Tanto les cuesta redactar las noticias de forma que, no ya no mientan, sino que no sean absurdas?
¿Que cada año se venden más productos "ecológicos"? Seguramente. ¿Que ciertos objetos, como los condones, que alguien tira al inodoro pueden acabar en el mar? También. Pero ahórrenme esa relación sacada de la manga entre ambas cosas, por muy estupenda que parezca en las coñas del café en la redacción.
PD: No sé cómo, pero había llegado a mi edad sin escribir nunca "váter". Me estresa. Prefiero "retrete", "tigre" incluso, lo que sea menos tener que pasar por el aro de los "cederrones", "güisquis" y demás aberraciones de la RAE. |

Finally saw Iron-Man last night... Was not disappointed at all! :D The story was ok, the effects were amazing, the battle scenes were cool and all in all the acting wasnt half bad either! :D
But the effects are what I went to see the movie for... and they rocked!!! |

The time has come.
Tomorrow, I enroll in my PhD.
Tomorrow I become, once again, a full time university student, albeit a postgraduate research student.
I'm nervous, and a little scared, and excited, and can't quite believe it's here.
And happy that it is.
My PhD is in History.
My (loose) topic is Myth, History and the work of Neil Gaiman.
If you are at all interested in my PhD or what it's like to do a PhD, I have created another lj, phd_grrl, where I will be writing specifically about my postgraduate experience. Please feel free to friend it, although I have been warned that it may contain a lot of wailing and gnashing of teeth. Consider yourselves under notice : )

Less said about work (both places), the better at the moment. Especially last night, when both Cath and I were stabbed royally right between the shoulderblades.

Now I KNOW I'm not the only one who hates those... and I might have posted this before here, but what the heck... in honor of tonight's Survivor's finals here in Israel, I'll post this (again if that is the case)
Now, people here believe that survivor really leaves those people stranded on the island without ANYTHING normal to eat and that they have to fetch it all themselves... Well, first off, they're not stranded, there's a whole camera crew there (if not a whole production crew... basically, a studio)... There's also a rumor that in the Israeli version, the island they were "stranded" on was actually not a deserted island, but a populated one... and woe is me, they were getting food when the cameras were off... what a shock!
So here's my idea for a true reality shows, survivor style... Set a dozen or so surveillance camera hidden on tree tops and wherever that can not be reached... send a dozen or 20 or how many you want people to the island, doesnt even have to be an even number... give everyone a knife and a hatchet... and let them survive that... I'm kinda betting on a murder spree and cannibalism at some point... And it'd be a good way to turn vegans/vegeterians into carnivores once more!
What do you say? Isnt that a good idea for a reality show??? |
